Yoga is still known in its original form in India where it originated so much so that the actual mental discipline from yoga is actually much more important to the Hindus.

When the actual physical workout is only here in the Western world in about the 1980s was yoga really transcribed as a physical workout and became a sort of fad for people to follow a new form of a workout but it was always more than this it was just mistranslated. 

When they crossed the seeds when it came to the Western world they kind of translated things like low yoga or high yoga which really essentially focused more on the physical side and kind of forget the spiritual side. 

Although it does exhibit it a tiny bit it really didn't balance out the way it was supposed to but it originally came over. Here now not to say that it's wrong and it's completely fine to practice each.

I'm simply showing the origins of this for you guys so you can understand it. Another way to see this is that someone who practices yoga officially it's called a yogi which is a well-known word because it is given out a lot here in America to really extreme and efficient practitioners of yoga. 

But, it is a much less common word in the eastern world due to the fact that this title is not given out to just anybody who can practice it physically.

You must be mentally aware too and you must reach a certain state of enlightenment. Both we and mentally to even get close to achieving the status of a yogi is much more sacred in India than it really is here in the Western world.

It means much more and really shows how the person is not only physically but inside as well but their being and who they are and how they understand the world compared to the way that we like to describe it here so when deciding if you should truly practice yoga it really comes down to understanding that it is not just a physical action itself but a mental and spiritual practice as well.
